Diabetic Meal Plans in Your Inbox Every Week: New Stress Saver from eMeals

Simplifies Meal Planning for Diabetics, Pre-Diabetics & Health-Conscious Consumers

BIRMINGHAM, AL (July 23, 2014) – Cooking smart with diabetes just went from painful to painless, thanks to online meal planning service eMeals. Subscribers to the new eMeals Diabetic Plan will receive seven simple, flavorful, carb-smart dinner menus on their smartphones or computers every week – all written by cookbook author Nancy S. Hughes and reviewed by eMeals registered dietitians. Each menu is designed to control carbohydrate, saturated fat and sodium intake without requiring cooks to pull out their food scales, calculators or same old recipes every night.

"Getting dinner on the table is a special challenge if there's diabetes or heart disease in the family. Limiting carbs, fats and sodium can be frustrating, and meals can get boring because people stick with what they know to be safe," said Hughes, who has been a consultant to both the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association for over two decades. "Having a week's worth of interesting, compliant and easy-to-prepare meals mapped out for you every seven days with this eMeals program can save time, add variety, and help people sustain healthy eating habits."

Available for families (3-6 servings) as well as singles/couples (1-2 servings), the new eMeals plan is tailored to those with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, and anyone who wants to improve his or her diet. It follows the recent guidelines of the American Diabetes Association recommending a heart-healthy, consistent carbohydrate diet rather than a low-carb approach. Each week's installment includes:

  • Five easy-cook meals with 50-60 grams of carbohydrate plus two low-carb meals with 30-40 grams of carbohydrate
  • Calories, carbohydrate grams, fiber grams and number of servings for each entrée and side dish
  • A focus on healthy cooking oils, lower-fat cuts of meat, whole grains, and fruits and vegetables
  • Prep and cook times for each meal
  • A once-a-week shopping list arranged by grocery aisle and usable at any grocery store

Nightly menus range from Chicken Enchiladas with shredded lettuce salad and multigrain tortilla chips (590 calories, 55 grams carb and 6 grams fiber) to Maple-Glazed Salmon with brown rice and lemony green beans (410 calories, 34 grams carb and 4 grams fiber). Recipes are clearly labeled by category such as kid-friendly, slow cooker, low carb and classic favorite to help guide each night’s meal choices.

Sample menus are available at Meals typically require 20-30 minutes of prep time and less than an hour from start to finish. Subscriptions begin at $5/month with 3-, 6- and 12-month options.

The Diabetic Plan is the latest addition to the eMeals service, which has helped hundreds of thousands of people save hours of meal planning drudgery as well as trim an average of $1,000 per year on the family grocery bill since 2003. Today, in addition to the new Diabetic plan, eMeals offers:
