Skillet Apple Cobbler

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, cubed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 crisp red apples, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place butter in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet (or an 11-x 7-inch baking dish). Place skillet in oven until butter is melted.
  3. Whisk together flour, sugars, baking powder and salt in a bowl; whisk in buttermilk and vanilla.
  4. Pour mixture into skillet over melted butter.
  5. Scatter apple slices over batter; sprinkle with cinnamon.
  6. Bake 35 minutes or until center is set and edges are golden brown.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar.
