Blueberry Sizzle French Toast

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 2-inch cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 tsp sugar
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 5 Tbsp butter, divided
  • 2 tsp cinnamon sugar
  • 1 pint blueberries
  • ¾ cup maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Pack bread cubes tightly into a greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish. Whisk eggs, milk, sugar, salt, and vanilla in a bowl. Pour mixture over bread; cover and chill 6 to 24 hours.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F.  Bake, uncovered, 45 minutes; remove from oven, baste with 4 Tbsp melted butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake 5 to 10 minutes longer.
  3. Melt 1 Tbsp butter in a nonstick skillet; add blueberries, and cook 3 minutes. Add syrup; bring to boil. Serve warm topping over French toast.
