Ingredients

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (32-oz) cartons chicken broth
  • 2 (14.5-oz) cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15-oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp dried Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups uncooked lasagna noodles, broken into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 (15-oz) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 (1-oz) pkg fresh basil, chopped
  • ¼ tsp pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook ground beef, onion, and garlic in a large soup pot 8 to 10 minutes or until beef is browned and crumbly; drain.
  2. Stir in broth, tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Italian seasoning, and salt.
  3. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.
  4. Add noodles, and simmer 10 minutes or until pasta is tender.
  5. Stir together ricotta, basil, and pepper in a small bowl. Dollop servings with cheese mixture.
