General Tso's Tofu
Brown Rice and Steamed Broccoli
Ingredients
- 1 (14-oz) pkg extra-firm tofu
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp hoisin sauce
- 3 Tbsp tomato paste
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Sriracha Asian hot sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 3 Tbsp cornstarch
- 3 Tbsp vegetable oil, divided
- 3 Tbsp minced peeled fresh ginger
Instructions
- Place tofu on heavy-duty paper towels; cover with additional paper towels. Let stand 15 minutes; cut into cubes.
- Meanwhile, combine brown sugar, hoisin sauce, tomato paste, soy sauce, vinegar, Sriracha sauce, and sesame oil; set aside. Toss tofu with cornstarch to coat lightly.
- Heat 2 Tbsp oil in large skillet over medium-heat heat. Add tofu; cook 5 to 7 minutes or until browned on all sides.
- Remove from skillet; place on paper towels to drain. Heat remaining 1 Tbsp oil in skillet over medium-high heat; add ginger and cook 1 minute or until fragrant.
- Add brown sugar mixture to skillet; cook 2 to 3 minutes until thickened and throughly heated. Add tofu to sauce; toss to coat tofu. Serve over brown rice.
Side Dish Ingredients
- 1½ cups brown rice
- 2 lb head broccoli, cut into florets
Side Dish Instructions
- Cook rice according to package directions.
- Add broccoli to 1-inch of boiling water in a saucepan. Cover, reduce heat to medium, and cook 5 to 6 minutes or until crisp-tender. Season to taste.
