5-Ingredient Sausage and Bean Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 (16-oz) pkg ground (mild or hot) Italian sausage
  • 1 (32-oz) carton beef broth
  • 2 (15-oz) cans great Northern beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (25-oz) can garlic and herb pasta sauce
  • 1 (16-oz) pkg tri-color coleslaw mix

Instructions

  1. Cook sausage in a large Dutch oven over medium heat stirring until browned and crumbly; drain.
  2. Stir in broth, beans, pasta sauce and coleslaw mix; bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes.

Side Dish Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp butter, softened
  • 12 slices whole wheat bread
  • 6 slices Cheddar cheese

Side Dish Instructions

  1. Spread butter on 1 side of each bread slice.
  2. Place 3 slices bread, buttered side down, in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  3. Top each with 1 slice cheese and 1 slice bread, buttered side up.
  4. Cook 3 to 4 minutes per side or until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.
  5. Repeat with remaining bread slices and cheese.
