Ingredients

  • 1½ lb ground beef
  • 1 (2.5-oz) pouch real bacon pieces
  • 1 (10.75-oz) can tomato soup
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 (16-oz) loaf French bread
  • 2 Tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 (8-oz) pkg sliced Cheddar cheese
  • 1 (8-oz) pkg shredded lettuce
  • 2 tomatoes, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cook beef in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring until beef is browned and crumbly; drain and return to skillet.
  2. Stir in bacon, soup, Worcestershire, and Dijon; bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, cut off top one-third of bread loaf. Remove and discard soft bread from bottom of loaf, leaving a ½-inch-thick shell.
  4. Place bottom half of loaf on a baking sheet; bake 10 minutes or until toasted.
  5. Spread softened butter over cut side of bread top, and place, cut side up, on pan.
  6. Spoon meat mixture into toasted loaf; arrange sliced cheese over meat mixture. Return to oven, and bake 10 to 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and top of loaf is toasted.
