General Tso's Tofu
Brown Rice and Steamed Broccoli
Ingredients
- ½ (14-oz) pkg extra-firm tofu
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1½ Tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1½ Tbsp tomato paste
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
- ½ Tbsp Sriracha Asian hot sauce
- ½ Tbsp sesame oil
- 1½ Tbsp cornstarch
- 1½ Tbsp vegetable oil, divided
- 1½ Tbsp minced peeled fresh ginger
Instructions
- Place tofu on heavy-duty paper towels; cover with additional paper towels. Let stand 15 minutes; cut into cubes.
- Meanwhile, combine brown sugar, hoisin sauce, tomato paste, soy sauce, vinegar, Sriracha, and sesame oil; set aside. Toss tofu with cornstarch to coat lightly.
- Heat 1 Tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-heat heat. Add tofu; cook 5 to 7 minutes or until browned on all sides.
- Remove from skillet; drain on paper towels. Heat remaining ½ Tbsp oil in skillet over medium-high heat; add ginger, and cook 1 minute or until fragrant.
- Add brown sugar mixture to skillet; cook 2 to 3 minutes until thickened and throughly heated. Add tofu to sauce; toss to coat tofu. Serve over brown rice.
Side Dish Ingredients
- ½ cup brown rice
- ½ lb broccoli crown, cut into florets
Side Dish Instructions
- Cook rice according to package directions.
- Add broccoli to 1-inch of boiling water in a saucepan. Cover; reduce heat and cook 5 to 6 minutes or until crisp-tender. Season to taste.
