Kicky Steak Strips with Rice
Sarah's Spinach Side DishIngredients
- ¾ cup Worcestershire sauce
- 3 Tbsp yellow mustard
- 1½ lb top sirloin steak, cut into thin strips
- 1½ cups uncooked long-grain white rice
- 3 cups water
- 1 Tbsp and 1½ tsp olive oil
- ¾ cup chopped sweet onion
- 3 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
- 1½ tsp pepper
Instructions
- In a medium container, mix Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Place steak strips in the mixture. Cover, and marinate in the refrigerator at least 30 minutes.
- Place rice and water in a medium saucepan, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and cook 20 minutes.
- Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the onion and garlic, and cook until tender. Season with pepper. Place steak into the saucepan and cook 5 to 7 minutes on each side, to desired doneness. Discard remaining marinade. Serve over the cooked rice.
Side Dish Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp whipped butter
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3 pinches garlic salt
- 3 pinches kosher salt
- ¾ cup low-fat milk
- 3 (10-oz) pkg frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
Side Dish Instructions
- Melt whipped butter in a small saucepan over medium heat; stir flour, garlic salt, and kosher salt into the melted butter until smooth.
- Whisk in low-fat milk, bring to a simmer, and reduce heat to low. Simmer sauce until thickened, whisking constantly, about 1 minute.
- Stir spinach into the sauce and heat until warmed through, 1 to 2 more minutes.
