Crispy Onion Rings with Kicked-Up Ketchup

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ lb ground sausage
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (14.5-oz) can fire-roasted diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 (8-oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 6 sub rolls, split
  • 1 (8-oz) pkg sliced mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook beef, sausage, bell pepper, onion, and garlic in a large skillet over medium heat until beef is browned and crumbly; drain and return to skillet.
  2. Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce, vinegar, and Italian seasoning. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes.
  3. Line rolls with cheese, tearing to fit, if necessary; fill with meat mixture.

Side Dish Ingredients

  • 1 (16-oz) pkg frozen onion rings
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp Sriracha hot sauce

Side Dish Instructions

  1. Bake onion rings according to package directions.
  2. Whisk together ketchup and hot sauce. Serve with onion rings.
