Bacon-Apple Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 slice bacon
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • ½ small red apple, finely chopped (or shredded)
  • ¼ tsp garlic salt
  • ⅛ tsp pepper
  • 1 (20-oz) pkg ground turkey
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 hamburger buns (preferably whole wheat)

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until crisp; drain, reserving drippings in skillet. Crumble bacon.
  2. Sauté onion, apple, garlic salt, and pepper in hot drippings until apple is soft; remove from heat, and cool.
  3. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Combine turkey, egg yolk, onion mixture, and bacon in a bowl; shape into 4 or 5 patties.
  4. Grill patties, covered, 5 to 6 minutes per side or until done. Serve 2 patties on buns with desired toppings. Reserve remaining 2 to 3 burgers for another meal.

Side Dish Ingredients

  • 2 cups arugula
  • ¼ cup pecans, toasted and chopped
  • 2 Tbsp fresh mint leaves
  • 2 Tbsp thinly sliced red onion
  • 3 Tbsp balsamic vinaigrette
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • ¼ cup crumbled reduced-fat feta cheese

Side Dish Instructions

  1. Place arugula, nuts, mint, and onion in a bowl; toss with vinaigrette. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with berries and cheese.
