Caramelized Onion and Bacon Burgers

Apple-Broccoli Salad


  • 12 slices bacon
  • 4 Tbsp butter, softened and divided
  • 2 red onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 6 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 6 hamburger buns, split


  1. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp; drain. Meanwhile, melt 2 Tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium heat; add onions, and cook, stirring occasionally, 20 minutes or until tender and golden. Stir in barbecue sauce.
  2. Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Combine beef, garlic salt, and pepper; shape into 6 patties. Grill patties, covered, 5 to 6 minutes per side or until no longer pink in centers. Top with bacon and cheese; grill 1 minute longer or until cheese is melted.
  3. Spread 2 Tbsp butter on cut sides of buns. Grill 1 to 2 minutes or until toasted. Pile onion mixture on bottom buns. Serve burgers on buns.

  • 2½ Tbsp sugar
  • 6 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 head broccoli, chopped
  • 2 apples, chopped
  • ¼ cup chopped onion

Side Dish Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, vinegar, mustard, and oil in a bowl. Add broccoli, apples, and onion; toss. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
