Cube Steak with Bell Pepper-Onion Gravy

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1½ lb cube steaks
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • ½ onion, sliced
  • ½ cup sliced celery
  • 1 (0.87-oz) pkg brown gravy mix
  •  1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Cook steak in hot oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat 1 to 2 minutes per side or until lightly browned. Remove from pan.
  2. Spread half of peppers, onion, and celery on bottom of a lightly greased 3- to 4-quart slow cooker; top with steak and remaining vegetables.
  3. Whisk together gravy mix and 1 cup cold water; pour over pepper mixture.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW 8 to 9 hours or until steaks are tender.
  5. (Reserve 2 steaks and ½ cup peppers and onions for Steak, Bell Pepper and Onion Hoagies recipe.) Serve remaining steak and peppers mixture over rice.

  • ½ cup long-grain white rice
