Ingredients

  • 1 (16-oz) pkg elbow macaroni
  • 6 Tbsp butter, divided
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups 2% reduced-fat milk
  • 1 (8-oz) block sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1½ cups panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Cook pasta according to package directions.
  2. Melt ¼ cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour; cook, stirring constantly, 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until thickened.
  3. Stir in Cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth; add pasta.
  4. Microwave 2 Tbsp butter at HIGH 30 seconds. Combine melted butter, panko, and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Spoon pasta mixture into a greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish; top with panko mixture.
  6. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until golden.
