Cajun Fried Okra
Ingredients
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 Tbsp Cajun seasoning
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 Tbsp hot sauce
- 1½ lb okra, cut into ½-inch pieces
Instructions
- Pour oil into a large saucepan to a depth of 2 inches; heat over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer reads 350°F.
- Place 1 cup flour in a shallow bowl. Stir together 1 cup flour, cornmeal, and Cajun seasoning in a separate shallow bowl.
- Whisk together buttermilk and hot sauce in a third shallow bowl.
- Dredge okra in flour to coat, shaking off excess.
- Dip in buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Dredge in cornmeal mixture, coating well.
- Fry okra, in batches, 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
