Skillet Sausage and Apples
Braised CabbageIngredients
- 6 (3-oz) chicken and apple smoked chicken sausages
- 4 organic Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into wedges
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- ½ cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 3 Tbsp pure maple syrup
Instructions
- Sauté sausage and apples in hot oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat 8 minutes or until browned; add thyme, broth, and maple syrup.
- Cook 5 minutes or until apples are tender and sauce is reduced by half.
Side Dish Ingredients
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 (2½ lb) head red cabbage, cored, halved and sliced
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp pepper
- ½ tsp caraway seeds
- 1½ cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 3 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
Side Dish Instructions
- Sauté onion in hot oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat 5 minutes or until tender; add cabbage, salt, pepper, and caraway seeds.
- Cook 5 minutes or until cabbage begins to wilt; add broth and vinegar.
- Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 25 minutes or until cabbage is tender.
