Salted Caramel Brownies

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups butter, softened
  • 1½ cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 (4-oz) bar semisweet chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 1 (12-oz) jar salted caramel topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F; line a 13- x 9-inch baking dish with foil, and coat with cooking spray.
  2. Beat butter and sugars in a large bowl with a mixer at medium speed until fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla.
  4. Stir together flour, cocoa, and ¼ tsp salt in a medium bowl. Gradually add to butter mixture, beating until blended. Stir in melted chocolate.
  5. Reserve 1 ½ cups batter in a small bowl. Spread remaining batter in prepared pan.
  6. Bake 25 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven, and spread caramel topping over brownies. Dollop reserved batter over caramel.
  8. Return to oven, and bake 20 to 25 minutes longer or until center is set. Cool completely before cutting; sprinkle lightly with salt, if desired.
