Crispy Onion Rings

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup pale ale
  • 1½ cups milk
  • 3 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 Tbsp hot sauce
  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 6 pretzel rolls, split and toasted
  • 2 tomatoes, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add flour; cook, whisking constantly, 2 minutes. Gradually add ale and milk, whisking until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly, until mixture is thick and bubbly.
  2. Gradually whisk in cheese and hot sauce until cheese is melted.
  3. Meanwhile, shape beef into 6 patties; season lightly with salt and pepper. Cook patties in a large skillet over medium-high heat 5 minutes per side or until no longer pink in centers.
  4. Serve patties on rolls with tomatoes, cheese sauce, and onion rings.
