Mushroom and Onion Patty Melts

Ingredients

  • 10 Tbsp butter, softened and divided
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 (16-oz) pkg whole mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 12 slices Texas toast
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 (8-oz) pkg sliced mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Melt 4 Tbsp butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onion and mushrooms; cook, stirring often, 12 to 15 minutes or until onions are very tender. Remove from skillet; wipe skillet clean.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F. Stir together beef, Worcestershire, thyme, and desired amount of salt and pepper; shape mixture into 6 thin patties.
  3. Cook patties, in batches if necessary, in same skillet over medium heat until no longer pink.
  4. Spread one side of each slice of toast with mayonnaise. Top each of 6 slices with a patty, mushroom mixture, and 1 slice cheese. Top with remaining toast, mayonnaise side down.
  5. Spread 6 Tbsp butter on outside of sandwiches; place on a large rimmed baking sheet. Bake 15 minutes or until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.

Side Dish Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake fries on a large rimmed baking sheet 18 to 20 minutes or until crisp.
