Skillet Sausage and Apples
Braised Cabbage
Ingredients
- 6 (3-oz) chicken and apple smoked chicken sausages
- 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into wedges
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- ½ cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 3 Tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp dried thyme
Instructions
- Sauté sausages and apples in hot oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat 8 minutes or until browned; add broth, syrup, and thyme.
- Cook 5 minutes or until apples are tender and sauce is reduced by half.
Side Dish Ingredients
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 (2½-lb) head red cabbage, cored, halved and sliced
- ½ tsp pepper
- ½ tsp caraway seeds
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1½ cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 3 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
Side Dish Instructions
- Sauté onion in hot oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat 5 minutes or until tender; add cabbage, pepper, caraway seeds, and salt.
- Cook 5 minutes or until cabbage begins to wilt; add broth and vinegar.
- Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 25 minutes or until cabbage is tender.
