Easy King Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 (3-lb) pkg frozen bread loaf dough (see Note)
  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Garnish: purple, yellow, and green colored sugars

Instructions

  1. Thaw frozen bread dough, and let rise according to package directions (see Note).
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll each bread loaf into a 24-x 8-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Spread softened butter over center of each rectangle. Stir together granulated sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over butter.
  4. Roll up each rectangle, starting at one long side, jelly-roll fashion, pinching ends and edges to seal.
  5. Pinch rolls together at top, seam side down; braid rolls.
  6. Transfer to a greased baking sheet, and form braid into a ring, pinching ends to seal.
  7. Bake 25 to 35 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely on baking sheet.
  8. Whisk together powdered sugar and milk; drizzle over cooled cake. Sprinkle with colored sugars, if desired.
