Upside Down Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 (0.87-oz) pkg brown gravy mix
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup softened butter
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 6 thick slices
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 2 (4-oz) packets dry mashed potatoes

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Cook beef in a large skillet over medium heat 8 minutes or until browned and crumbly; drain.
  2. Make broth with 2 cups boiling water and 2 beef bouillon cubes; set aside.
  3. Return beef to skillet, and stir in vegetables, gravy mix, 1⅔ cups broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes or until thickened.
  4. Spread butter over sliced bread and sprinkle with garlic salt. Bake 5 minutes on an open rack in oven until toasted.
  5. Make potatoes according to package directions.
  6. Arrange toast on each serving plate. Spoon potatoes over toast; spoon beef mixture over potatoes.
