Tomatillo Bloody Mary

Ingredients
- 1 lb green tomatoes, quartered
- 1 lb tomatillos, husked, washed, and quartered
- 1 serrano pepper, halved lengthwise
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro leaves
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 3 Tbsp fresh lime juice
- 2 tsp prepared horseradish
- 2 tsp hot sauce
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- Pinch of ground cumin
- 1½ cups vodka
- 1 cup sparkling mineral water, chilled
- Garnishes: celery sticks, serrano peppers, fresh cilantro sprigs, lime wedges
Instructions
- Preheat broiler. Place tomatoes and tomatillos on a foil-lined rimmed baking sheet.
- Broil 5 minutes; stir and add serrano pepper to baking sheet. Broil 5 minutes longer or until slightly charred. Cool slightly. Wearing gloves, remove stem and seeds from pepper.
- Process, in batches, if necessary, tomatillos, tomatoes, serrano pepper, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, horseradish, hot sauce, Worcestershire, mustard, salt, and cumin until smooth in a blender with center of lid removed so heat can escape.
- Transfer tomatillo mixture to a large pitcher. Refrigerate 1 hour or until chilled.
- Just before serving, stir in vodka and sparkling mineral water. Fill 6 glasses half full with ice. Top with tomatillo mixture. Garnish, if desired.
