French Onion Salisbury Steak Bowls

Ingredients

  • ½ lb ground beef
  • ⅛ tsp salt
  • ⅛ tsp pepper
  • 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • ¼ tsp sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ Tbsp tomato paste
  • ¾ cup low-sodium beef broth
  • ¼ tsp dried thyme
  • 2 frozen cheese with garlic Texas toast

Instructions

  1. Combine beef, salt, and pepper in a bowl; shape into 2 patties. Dredge patties in flour; reserve ½ tsp flour.
  2. Cook patties in hot oil in a large skillet over medium heat 5 minutes per side. Remove from skillet, and set aside. Drain, reserving 1 Tbsp drippings in skillet.
  3. Add onion and sugar to drippings; cook over medium heat 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and tomato paste; cook 2 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle reserved flour over onion; cook, stirring, 2 minutes. Add broth, thyme, and patties to skillet; bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 10 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, bake cheese toast according to package directions. Place 1 slice in each of 2 shallow bowls. Place 1 patty on each piece of toast; ladle soup and onion mixture over patties.

Side Dish Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped romaine lettuce
  • ½ cup garlic croutons
  • 3 Tbsp Italian dressing

Side Dish Instructions

  1. Toss together all ingredients in a bowl just before serving.
