Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 (15-oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 12 slices bread
  • 4 Tbsp butter, softened
  • 6 slices Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Cook beef in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until browned and crumbly; drain and return to skillet.
  2. Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire, sugar, and garlic powder. Cook 4 to 5 minutes or until thickened. Season lightly with salt and pepper, if desired.
  3. Spread butter on 1 side of each bread slice. Place 6 slices of bread, buttered sides down, on a baking sheet. Top each with ½ cup meat mixture, 1 slice cheese and remaining bread, buttered sides up, to make sandwiches.
  4. Bake sandwiches 15 minutes or until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.
