Chocolate Kiss Cookies

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1⅓ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup dark chocolate baking cocoa 
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • 2 (4-oz) semisweet chocolate bars, melted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 (10.1-oz) bag milk chocolate candies hugged by white creme candy, unwrapped

Instructions

  1. Beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl with a mixer at medium speed until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  2. Whisk together flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Add flour mixture to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture, beating just until combined after each addition.
  3. Stir in melted chocolate into dough until blended. Cover, and refrigerate dough at least 2 hours.
  4. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Place powdered sugar in a small bowl. Shape dough into 1½-inch balls and roll in powdered sugar to coat. Place coated dough balls 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheets.
  5. Bake 15 minutes or until surface of cookies are cracked and edges look dry.  Immediately insert a chocolate candy in center of each cookie. Cool on pans 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from pans, and cool completely on wire racks. Store in an airtight container up to 3 days.
