Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced across the grain
  • ¼ cup plus 1 Tbsp cornstarch, divided
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup water
  • ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp refrigerated ginger paste
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper
  • 4 green onions, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Place steak slices in a large zip-top plastic bag. Add ¼ cup cornstarch; seal bag, and shake to coat.
  2. Cook coated steak, in batches, in hot oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned and crisp. Drain crispy beef on paper towels. Wipe skillet clean.
  3. Stir together water, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, ginger paste, 1 Tbsp cornstarch, and red pepper in a same skillet; cook over medium-high heat until slightly thickened.
  4. Add steak and green onions; cook until sauce is thickened. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  • 1½ cups basmati rice
  • 2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp toasted sesame seeds

Side Dish Instructions

  1. Cook rice according to package directions. Toss hot cooked rice with sesame oil and sesame seeds in a large bowl.
