Salisbury Steak Bowls

Ingredients

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 2 Tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 2¼ cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 6 frozen five cheese Texas toast

Instructions

  1. Combine beef, salt, and pepper in a bowl; shape into 6 patties. Dredge patties in flour; reserve 1 tsp flour.
  2. Cook patties in hot oil in a large skillet over medium heat 5 minutes per side. Remove from skillet, and set aside. Drain, reserving 1 Tbsp drippings in skillet.
  3. Add onions and sugar to drippings; cook over medium heat 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and tomato paste; cook 2 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle reserved flour over onions; cook, stirring, 2 minutes. Add broth, thyme, and patties to skillet; bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer 10 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, bake cheese toasts according to package directions. Place 1 slice in each of 6 shallow bowls. Place 1 patty on each piece of toast; ladle soup and onion mixture over patties.
