Ingredients

  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • ½ jalapeño, seeded and chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced and divided
  • 1 cup (fresh or frozen) blackberries
  • ½ cup Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon
  • ⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1⅜ Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1⅛ tsp salt, divided
  • ⅛ tsp plus ½ tsp pepper, divided
  • 3 lb (80/20) ground beef
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • 1 (6-count) pkg whole grain Brioche buns, buttered and toasted
  • 3 (4-oz) containers crumbled goat cheese
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh basil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup self rising flour
  • ½ (32-oz) bottle vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. For the Blackberry Cabernet Barbecue Sauce:.
  2. Cook onion in hot oil in a saucepan over medium heat 5 minutes. Add chopped jalapeño, 3 cloves minced garlic, blackberries and wine. Cook 3 to 4 minutes or until berries have softened.
  3. Add vinegar, ketchup, Worcestershire, sugar, honey, ⅛ tsp each salt and pepper; bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes or until thickened. Puree until smooth; strain sauce, discarding solids.
  4. For the Patties:.
  5. Gently combine beef, minced jalapeño, 3 cloves minced garlic, 1 tsp salt, and ½ tsp pepper in a large bowl. Shape into 6 portions. Divide each portion in half, and shape into 12 thin pattes.
  6. For the Goat Cheese Mixture:.
  7. Stir together goat cheese and basil in a bowl until blended.
  8. Spoon 2 Tbsp goat cheese mixture in center of 6 patties. Top each with a second patty, pressing edges to seal.
  9. Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
  10. Grill patties 5 to 6 minutes per side or until a thermometer inserted registers 140°F.  Grill buns, cut sides down, 1 to 2 minutes or until toasted.
  11. For the Crispy Onion Strings:.
  12. Pour oil 1-inch deep in a large skillet; heat over medium heat to 375°F. Combine sliced onions and flour in a large zip-top plastic bag. Seal bag, and shake to coat.
  13. Fry coated onion slices 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy; drain on paper towels.
  14. Serve patties on toasted buns with Blackberry Cabernet Barbecue Sauce and Crispy Onion Strings.
  15. Serve with a glass of Sutter Home Fruit Infusions Wild Berry.
