Blackberry-Basil-Cucumber Smash

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 (0.5-oz) pkg fresh basil
  • 4 blackberries
  • 2 cucumber slices
  • 3 Tbsp gin
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, water, and basil in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat; cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Strain (makes ⅔ cup).
  2. Add blackberries and cucumber to a cocktail shaker, and gently muddle. Add gin, 2 Tbsp basil simple syrup, lemon juice, and ice to fill shaker. Cover and shake until chilled, about 30 seconds.
  3. Strain mixture into an old fashioned glass filled half full with ice. Garnish, if desired.
