Cheddar Drop Biscuits with Sausage and Tomato

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup cold buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • ½ lb lean turkey breakfast sausage, cut into 6 slices
  • 1 large tomato, cut into 6 slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F. Whisk together both flours, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Stir in buttermilk and butter until just moistened. Gently stir in cheese. Drop dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet in 6 (¼-cup) mounds.
  3. Bake 10 minutes or until biscuits are golden.
  4. Meanwhile, cook sausage according to package directions.
  5. Cut biscuits in half horizontally. Serve sausage and tomato in biscuits.
